It's health AND fitness for a reason

This is why we do movement screens with our members before writing them a training plan. Prescribing fitness without a movement screen is like embarking on a cross-country road trip without first inspecting your car and charting a route - are your tires good? Do they have enough air? Do your windshield wipers work? Are the fluids in check? Do you need an oil change? A movement screen tells us what routes are safe to travel and which may bring more risk than reward.

Forgoing a movement screen and writing a universal workout for all of our members would be easy to do - but it’s irresponsible. It assumes that each person moves well and has the capacity to do the exercises (which is not true MOST of the time). We are individuals, we have wildly different movement histories, and we all react to movement in unique ways. Sure, you won’t get injured the first time or maybe even the 20th time, but continually doing exercises on top of a poor movement pattern will lead to injury. It’s just a matter of when.
