Hands on your knees (not on your head)

When you're tired, put your hands on your knees and not on your head. Our bodies intuitively know what to do. When we get into that hunched over position, it’s because it’s the easiest way for our body to take in air - hands on knees, rounded back, breathing in through the nose out through the mouth.

What happens when we put our hands up on our head? We restrict our airway and make it hard to breathe. There are coaches who teach athletes not to put their hands on their knees because opponents may judge them as weak and tired. In our opinion, we’d rather athletes be physically ready for the next play vs. avoiding a recovery strategy for the sake of mental play. Tough and unprepared or recovered and ready to go? You make the call.
